All my friends in the city, I wrote them
There is a Tussock Grass here that’s so solemn
I’ve been watching it bow cleverly
before the gale
Every hare in the meadow is listening
over the plains if the Starlings are whistling
But onto their pointed ears whispers a wind
carrying Quails
Whether the Storks are tapping for courtship
or to applaud the lithe Penduline Tit
They have returned to their bumpy plots
carrying thy mail
Carpets of Goosegrass hinge onto Celandine
adorning the vent of a desolate copper mine
Is the green ocean hiding a shaft
wherein i wail?
All of my friends in the city, I wrote them
how a celestial tinge was unfolding
casting a reddish light onto the mirror
of a calm lake
Hidden in Pondweed under the surface
slumbers a pike that doesn’t turn, lest
the queen Bittern vectors her beads
onto his scales
A handful of Water Striders is sliding
for the invisible ones that are hiding
Are they performing a crooked ballet
wherein I wail?
Is it but an ocean
giving the poet’s voice a sound
Longing for emotion
because it’s cold and stark?
Every tree is brut for burning
whilst a seed bears its returning
Bump a bee out of the sky
